Second Scan

Pregnancy
Had my second scan yesterday. All is well with the baby - although it wriggles as much as me and enjoys having it’s photo taken about as much!
I’ve got to have a series of tests and will be having regular scans from 28 weeks, but I think this is more due to the over-cautious (and incredibly rude) Specialist Registrar we saw than any real danger to me or the small one. It does mean that my mum will be able to come with me and see a scan - which will be a first. Of course, when I was inside her - a couple of years ago - such things weren’t available!
I’m sure a photo will follow at some point!

We had our wedding reception here, and it just happens to be one of my favourite pubs in the area. I’m gutted.
Cynical Hormones

The Other Half and I are supposed to be going out to dinner this evening - on the basis that I’d like to do something on a Friday night that doesn’t include being in my pj’s by 7pm and trying to stay awake for Sex and the City. How much he forgets to book the table in his excitement at getting a round of golf in this afternoon?
Plus, it’s My Dear Friend’s birthday tomorrow and I’m neither making his impromptu do or the more organised one next week. I don’t see the point as I can’t drink and smoke and everyone around me will be arsed! Anyway, happy birthday honey. I’m not jealous, no not at all.
Mmm - wonder if my cynical hormones may be kicking in?
Radio in the Car

I don’t really listen to music radio. The occasional bout of Mark and Lard when I’m alone in the office, but that’s about it.
Except, of course, for the car. In the car, flicking between music and talk radio stations keeps me awake of a dreary morning. As soon as my attention wavers (and I’ve got the attention span of a gnat - ask the Other Half about adverts and the remote) I flick channels. Hence, on occasion, I end up listening to Radio 1.
Now, I wasn’t a great fan of the move of Sara Cox to the afternoon and Chris Moyles to the morning. However, that’s been brushed aside by three records on the Moyles show this week. And for anyone who ever thought I had any taste in music, please look away now. My only excuse is I’m pregnant.
One segment of the Moyles show is called “Tedious Link” and it used to be on at 5.30pm. However, it’s now on at 9am, what with the show move and all. Therefore, instead of sometimes missing the Tedious Link tune - as I’d already arrived home - I’m now just about hitting Cardiff Bay when it comes on. This week we’ve had Beck’s “Loser”, George Michaels “Freedom” and today Duran Duran with “The Reflex”. All tunes that made me smile.
After all, what better way is there to start the day than with a smile?
Pancakes

I was really afraid earlier that I’d missed Pancake Day! After two years of being on a diet, I nearly collapsed when I thought I’d missed the annual round of pancakes, dried fruit and - if I’m honest - golden syrup.
Anyway, crisis averted, it’s next Tuesday.

Hair Bear Bunch

So, the men were playing rugby, they were sweating liberally and the smell of linoment still haunts me. There were also a high number of frightening hair-do’s, reminiscent in parts of the Welsh teams from the 1970’s. Who knew the Hair Bear Bunch were still around, and playing rugby for Wales - I always thought they were Americans!
Can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, personally.

Did I mention that I have tickets to the rugby at the Millennium Stadium tomorrow? Four rows from the pitch. Mmmm, sweaty rugby players……
Drunk Hair

I can’t make up my mind whether being able to tell how much you’ve been drinking over the previous weeks from your hair is a good idea or not. For drink drivers who flee the scene, it’s good that they may now be able to trace them, even after the alcohol would not detect in a blood sample. However, it’s more control on life, which I’m never convinced about.
It reminded me of the second OU Summer School the Other Half went on. When he came back from it he underwent some tests as part of a clinical study he was doing for the research institute I used to work for. One of the nurses approached me to say that he had some “startling” (i.e. excessive) liver function results and perhaps the Other Half would like to see a counsellor. Once explained, of course, there was much hilarity, but it shows that a week of solid drinking (which, in my and the Other Halfs experience, goes hand in hand with Summer School) does show up.
Anyway, off to the Health and Social Services Committee at the National Assembly for Wales for a kip.
