Hi, John here, posting because Joe’s absent for the moment, with the contents of the text message I got last night:
Baby Will was born at 7.45pm on Saturday night, weighing 4lb 12oz. Yes, that’s very small, and he’ll be staying in the hospital for a while, but everything’s expected to be fine.
So, expect pics and a better posting from the woman herself when she’s back home
Congrats to Joe and Scott!

You know that life is over when you get excited about the fact that your shipment of reusable nappies has arrived!
Oh, the shame *skulks off to sit in a corner and learn how to knit, because, this is inevitably now the next step*

Spent eight hours yesterday locked in a hotel in Mid-Wales discussing a guidance document, which the powers that be may not even publish, with some arrogant, opinionated little shits (male and female). Had so little patience, spent some of the time considering whether I could hang one of the men via the key chain thingy attached to his belt loop (*shudder*). The rest of it I spent trying to carefully explain the purpose of the document and keep people from mis-interpreting things that were so obvious that they must have just been winding me up.
Twelve and a half hours out of the house. Very tired. Now re-writing said document to incorporate comments. Fuckers!

The shape of things to come, I fear. Although, Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, etc is likely to replace Pyramid.

New scan photo over in the gallery. Progress remains steady and unremarkable. Blood pressure, etc all normal. Scan revealed a yawning child that stuck it’s thumb in its mouth (oh, that’s stopping as soon as its out of there!).
No appointment until 9th June - hooray!

Courtesy of my so called Dear Friend, a little bit of a dig by someone who used to be famous at Wales and the Welsh.
I don’t know what he means about bad weather????

I finally graduated last Saturday. After 6 years of studying with the Open University, I finally got my certificate confirming that I gained a BA (Hons) (Upper Second Class) in Social Sciences with Social Policy. However, I have a query. For those of you out there who’ve graduated, are all the ceremonies really as boring as the one I sat through?
I arrived with my folks and Other Half at about 11.30, had the photo taken (I didn’t want it - my Mum did. I’m pregnant and couldn’t be bothered to fight), had the fastest lunch in history and was in my seat, as directed, before 2pm. Then nothing, other than organ music, until after 2.30pm. Thank God for the girl next to me, who was graduating in music. Further up the row, no-one spoke. At least I got some conversation. At 2.30pm there was a procession of the great and the good, some bowing at a mace and then the post-grads got up for their 30 seconds of glory.
After an address by someone who had received an Honorary Degree for being part of the Miners Strike (from what I could gather) and who couldn’t remember that “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” comes from Cabaret, all the rest of the presentations took place. About 300 of them, of which, I knew two other people in the whole thing. Nonetheless, you clap, and you clap, and you clap..
And at some point you realise that you really could do with going to the loo again and there are still anoth 5 rows to go, and another address and the national anthem. Plus you can’t get out of your row, because the lady at the end is blind and has her guide dog at her feet. So you shuffle, and you shuffle, and you shuffle…
And finally you get out - and being female there’s a queue for the loo. But, that’s a whole other rant for a different day.
So, is it less boring at a conventional ceremony, when you probably know more than two other people graduating with you? Is it a real giggle, followed by lots of drinking and throwing hats in the air (although, as the OU doesn’t “do” the mortar board thing, I was saved from that indignaty at least!)?
I always said that I’d have a huge drunken party following graduation. Being pregnant kind of precluded that (no, other people are not drinking and enjoying themselves when I can’t!). So, we’re kind of thinking of a huge *something* in the Autumn. Perhaps then I’ll be glad I graduated!
