Dirty Sanchez versus GLC

I know the Badly Dubbed Boy has a problem with Goldie Lookin Chain (GLC), but after their appearance on Soccer AM last Saturday (I was feeding the child, the TV was on.. plus other excuses), I wonder whether they have more about them than he thinks. In saying this, I do not, of course, condone their impersonators around Cardiff and district. They’ve got it cornered you morons - surely you can’t be serious about the shell-suits?

However, the one question that bothers me still. Can anyone tell the difference between them and the boys from “Dirty Sanchez”, possibly one of the best post-pub pieces of television ever?

Answers, as ever, on the comments postcard below.

This got me wondering whether The Other Half has links to those in high places at the Beeb.

Sheep stories haven’t been so prominent since he’s had the new car. There are far too many buttons to press to be looking out of the window at the sheep. If he could only keep one eye on the road, I’d be happy!!

Beer or Forgetting Your Homework!

It’s the same as asking to see the school nurse to avoid handing in your homework!

Mr Murphy had either forgotten to write his debate article / was worried that the hall would empty quicker than a school disco come the “slow dance” / had drunk so much of the free beer on offer (official source - Radio Five!) that the hangover-dehydration finally caught up with him!

Life and Death

It’s taken me a few days to think about this post. Not, so you understand, that this is all I’ve thought about. However, to have dashed something off last week would not have been appropriate - and I’d have probably got my context all wrong.

Last week I watched the Panorama programme on Premature Babies. Earlier in the day, I’d mentioned to some friends that I feared that it would not be an easy programme to watch and that some of the reporting may be negative to the work being done in neo-natal units across the country. It certainly wasn’t an easy programme to watch, and as I said to the Other Half after watching it, I’m only glad that William is already here and I wasn’t still pregnant! In saying that, of course, no-one believes that their pregnancy is going to result in a pre-term birth. Of all the things I worried about whilst pregnant, this was certainly not one of them.

Whilst the programme concentrated on children born under 25 weeks and William was born at 33 weeks gestation, there were some moments where I could identify with the parents on the programme. Before William was born, I was warned that he may not cry at delivery. I was also told that, despite the excellent trace on his heart that they were getting, he may be born with medical problems that were as yet undetected. I was also made aware that he could be very small - and stay that way for some time to come. I began to have visions of giving birth to some of the very premature babies I’d seen on the TV - covered in down and with bones sticking to their skin, where they hadn’t had chance to put down their fat reserves. Luckily, William bounced into the world, screaming and yelling his arrival.

For mothers delivering pre-25 weeks, I cannot begin to imagine the emotions involved. To be asked whether you want your baby to be resuscitated must be dreadful. You are being put in a position to decide whether your child lives or dies. Of course, it is the same decision my mother was given as she was being wheeled into theatre to have me. She was asked whether they should save her or me, should things go wrong. She, completely correctly, said her - as my father would never have coped with raising me alone. However, it wasn’t until William was making his speedy entrance into the world that I fully understood what was asked of her.

Watching the programme - and the editorial decisions made by the team who put it together - it was disturbing that so many premature babies were shown to have some form of either physical or mental disability. However, whether this should mean that we as a nation follow the Dutch lead and routinely not resuscitate babies born under 25 weeks is not clear. The way in which the programme was presented may have led to a knee-jerk reaction which encouraged us to think that the Dutch had it right. And, as people around me, I hope, know, I am not in the group which believes that a foetus is a person with rights. However, there is a time where to have a set of rules and assessments which sees every case in the same way cannot be correct.

It is important that each case, in my view, is taken entirely on its own merits. William was heralded with doom and gloom and has, thus far, proved all of the nurses and doctors who worried me during my labour, incorrect. Whether that will follow for the years to come is uncertain. But, then again, life is just that - uncertain.

What a completely brilliant idea! How to buy someone a beer - even when you aren’t there!

HELP!

On the basis that my technical guru has disappeared off the planet (possibly to Canada, following some links and extrapolation on my behalf, which is as near to off the planet as I get at past midnight), does anybody know whether there is some scam going on with billing for domain names?

Said technical guru usually sorts this for me - and the credit card bill comes up with a French company paid in Euros at about £12. Suddenly I’ve had a letter from Domain Registry Services for £60 for a two-year period. I’m not sure whether to pay it - especially as I turned down a new ear-piercing at the weekend as “unecessary expenditure” (maternity leave pay is sh*t).

Any advice from out there? They are threatening that if I don’t pay up forthwith “..then the domain name may be deleted from the Internet and open for purchase by other parties.” I’m not sure who the hell else would want my name - but can’t face the inevitable disruption of losing it!

UPDATE I seem to have answered my own query about the domain names. It looks like a scam - I knew it wasn’t right when there was no way of paying via the net. Any further advice, however, would still be welcome.

On My Bedside Table

I’m currently reading Gazza’s autobiography, which the Manc Scum gave me as a birthday gift. I’m not that far into it, as yet (I mean, it’s only been about 2 weeks and my chances to read can be counted on one hand), but am not sure whether I want to slap Paul or give him a hug. He does seem to have had it rough, but then been a complete f**kwit at other times!

It’s a curiously compelling read, however. I’ll try and remember to let you know how I feel by the end.

PS - On related (ie football) news, I did take a moment yesterday to remember the great Brian Clough, whose interviews on radio and TV during the ’70’s and ’80’s nearly had me moving my allegiances from Liverpool to Nottingham Forest. A great man - who never minced his words, only his players when they didn’t perform!

Why am I surprised…
